William Wentz III Obituary

William “Billy” S. Wentz, III, 75, of Durham, NC, was called home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2024.

Billy was born in Durham to the late William S. Wentz, Jr., and Edna Dean Wentz. A Vietnam Veteran, he served his country with great honor and distinction, earning multiple accolades, including the Purple Heart—a testament to his bravery and sacrifice.

Billy was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and knack for good-natured teasing, bringing laughter and joy to everyone around him. He loved fishing, camping, and serving the Lord, finding solace and purpose in his faith and the beauty of the outdoors. Billy’s resilience and steadfast commitment to his family and the communities he was part of will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Wentz; his daughter, Stacey Lewis, and her husband, Michael Lewis; and his beloved grandchildren, Hudson and Dean. Billy’s cherished family also includes his sister, Dee Williams, and her husband, Mitch; his brothers, Calvin Wentz and Bo Wentz, along with Bo’s wife, Blanche; and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1104 Milton Rd., Durham, NC 27712, on Saturday, November 2, with Dr. Marc Francis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 to 11:45 am, with the service beginning at 12:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1104 Milton Rd., Durham, NC 27712, or Baptists on Mission (https://baptistsonmission.org/Donate).

"Billy’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will remain forever in our hearts."

Mr. Wentz is entrusted to Kelvin Lewis, the Funeral Director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home Staff of Myrtle Beach, SC.
