Sam Azemopoulos Obituary

Sam Petros Azemopoulos, 83 years old, passed away on August 5, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1941, in Kastorias, Greece. Sam traveled to America with his family, arriving on Valentine's Day in

1955. He proudly received his United States Citizenship in 1978.

Sam grew up in Illinois and went to school in Chicago. He was drafted during Vietnam and served honorably in many locations across the US as an MP.

After the war, Sam became a barber. He opened and kept his own barber shop, being a favorite of locals in Chicago for over 40 years. He finished his career in Arlington Heights at Sorrentino's

barber shop.

In 1961, he met the love of his life, Wilma "Sue". They married in 1966 and moved to Rosemont, Illinois in 1967, where they raised their three beautiful children, Paul, Mary, and Tina. Sam was a proud and loving husband and father.

In 2004, Sam and Sue moved to Conway, South Carolina. In their "retirement," Sam became a huge part of the local community. Sam was an incredible neighbor who never failed to offer a smile and

a hand. If you were in need, odds were high you'd look around and find Sam, in his golf cart - on his way to save the day! His constant curiosity showed in his enjoyment of fixing and building

things. He loved to travel to Hawaii. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Sam was a real light in this world, always generous with his smile and a joke. If you were in Sam's orbit, you were loved and you knew it.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Christina and Petros, and sisters, Connie and Helen, and his beloved son, Paul. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will continue to celebrate his life: his wife, Sue (nee Gilpin); his daughter, Mary, and her husband, Troy Alwine; his daughter, Tina Azemopoulos; and his grandchildren-Nicole and her husband Neal Martin, Brianna Threewitt, Bailey Edwards, and Jared Azemopoulos. He's also survived by his great-grandson, Jack Martin.
