Ruth Murphy Obituary

Ruth Ann Murphy (Jackson), a longtime resident of Pirateland Campground, passed away in the early morning hours on March 20th at McLeod Health Seacoast Hospital.

She was born on May 25, 1937, and raised on a farm in Peach Bottom, Lancaster County, PA.  She graduated from the Jefferson School of Nursing in Lancaster, PA and it was there she met her husband, Dr. Robert M Murphy (deceased).  They had 7 children: Eileen Walp [Allen Walp- deceased], Kathy Murphy [Ed Talarowski], Robert Murphy Jr (deceased), Theresa Whitley (deceased), Tricia Bailey [Ed Bailey], Edith Murphy (deceased), and Kevin/Micky Lee Murphy.  She was also blessed with 7 grandchildren she adored: Christopher Bartkiewicz [Lauren], Geoffrey Walp (deceased), Michael Reichard, Jennifer Walp [Galen Waltman], Samantha Branham [Brett], CJ Bailey, and Liana Bailey as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Baya, Ever, Ollie, Blake, Tyde, Jaxon, and Bowie.

After retirement from nursing as an RN, Ruth enjoyed the excitement of traveling, the accomplishment of crafts, puzzles, DIY, food (don’t we all), and photography, but ‘Mom Murphy’ really cherished family time most of all.  Ruth always said the happiest 40 years of her life happened after she moved to her little corner of paradise in Pirateland.  She enjoyed many years of family time at her home there and appreciated that several members of her extended family would come and visit her at the beach.

Predeceased by her parents, H. Andrew Jackson and Eva Jackson, she is survived by a sister, Anna Mae Miller, and brother Andrew Jackson (husband of Shirley), as well as various nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and remembered fondly by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she treasured.

Mrs. Murphy is entrusted to the care of Kelvin F. Lewis, Funeral Director, and Lewis Crematory & Funeral Services of Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 294-0011
