Rosa L. Smith

Rosa Lopizzo Smith, 76, passed away peacefully with family and friends at her side on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at her home in Longs, SC.  Born in Linz, Austria to the late Dominick Lopizzo and Maria “Teddy” Conway, née Gaber she spent her youth in Metuchen, NJ, and most of her adult life in the Carolinas with her late husband of 49 years, Roger Dale Smith.

Rosa retired in 2002, having spent many years working in various administrative roles with Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown and North Carolina State University in Raleigh.  Rosa had a lifelong love for travel both around the US and abroad, having most recently taken a Danube River cruise this past October.  In addition to travel, Rosa enjoyed spending time with and supporting her grandchildren in their sports and activities.  She was an avid supporter and volunteer for causes fighting cancer, especially for Little Pink Houses of Hope.  Rosa was strong in her faith and enjoyed a wonderful church community while attending Waterbrook Community Church in Longs and participating in weekly Bible study.

Survivors include her sons, Chris Smith (Leah), and Dale Smith; step-children Shannon Smith and Zane (Michele); grandchildren Madelaine, Tabitha, Morgan, Campbell, and Cooper; sister Jo Ann Zavodnick.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be shared with family and friends. In place of flowers, please consider donating in Rosa’s honor to Little Pink Houses of Hope
