Richard Matuszkiewicz, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Born in New Jersey at Somerset Medical Center to Martin and Anna (née Fedas) Matuszkiewicz, Rich was a longtime resident of Middlesex, New Jersey, before later making his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Rich attended Monmouth College before joining the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
He began his career at Nabisco before joining the Elizabeth, New Jersey, Fire Department, where he served with pride for more than 25 years. He retired as a Captain in 2004.
After retirement, Rich and his wife moved to Myrtle Beach, where he enjoyed fishing, going to the gym, and playing cards. He also loved traveling with his wife and especially cherished time spent in Key West and Saint Martin.
Rich was especially proud of his grandchildren. He encouraged his grandson’s creativity and loved watching his granddaughter play softball.
He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Anna Matuszkiewicz.
Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Judy (née Parfitt) Matuszkiewicz of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his daughter, Melissa Matts and her husband, Charlie, of South River, New Jersey; his son, Marc Matuszkiewicz and his wife, Angie, of Burlington, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Ryan and Madeleine; his brother, Dennis Matuszkiewicz; and his sister, Martyann Gutierrez.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Middlesex, New Jersey. A second celebration will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; details will be announced.
