Richard D Avey, 69, most recently a resident of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Thursday, December 22nd, at Roper Hospice Cottage in Charleston, S.C. after a prolonged illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J and Alice J Avey of Boalsburg, Pa., as well as brothers Jimmy, Allen, and, Glenn, and sister Alice Lynn. He is survived by sisters Bonnie Twymon of Pearland, Tx., Jill Oakley of Sunset Beach, N.C., and Larry Avey of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Richard (Rick) was born in 1953 in Frankfurt Germany where his father was serving as a Lt. in the U.S. Army. He grew up in central Pennsylvania and was a 1971 graduate of State College Area High School. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Denver, Colorado where he studied criminal science and psychology. He worked in this field for a time before discovering his true calling as a massage therapist. He enjoyed this occupation for many years having his own practice in the Denver area. He moved to the Houston Texas area in 2016, then relocated to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 2017. Rick was an eternal optimist and always had another dream on the horizon. He was generous and well-liked by all he met. He will be greatly missed.
