Obituary

Peter David Lawler of Pottstown, PA, recently living in Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023, at 79 years old.  Peter was born on April 18th, 1944 to Thomas Lawler and Phyllis (Glassmire) Lawler, he was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

Peter is survived by his life partner, Paula Schaefer, her children, and their spouses, Shawn Geissler and Danielle Roberts, in addition to Kristen and Anthony Lowe. His grandchildren, Megan Geissler, Maddisen Selvage, and Lillian Selvage all adored their Pete Pete and spent his last day by his side, reminding him of their love and sending their request with him to heaven.  Together, he and Lillian read scripture and he took comfort in knowing he would be with his Lord and Savior.

Pete is also survived by his cherished sister, Linda Elliott, and her husband Jim Elliott.  Linda and Jim were blessed with their own children Lissa St.Clair and Brad Elliott who grew up with a very loving Uncle Pete.  Lissa was blessed with her children and now great children.  Erica Atkins, Jordan Millard, Dana Ullmann, Kyle Atkins, and Gregory Elliott all considered Pete their Great Uncle.  He was a Great Great Uncle to Jack Ullmann, Cora Ullmann, Duke Ullmann, Carson Kemp, Jaxon Kemp, and Jolene Millard.

He graduated from The Hill School, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, he was immensely proud of the education he received at The Hill.  He served in the United States Army Reserve as a medic and graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor’s degree and held a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Pete was a Mason at Stichter Lodge No. 254 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

He began his career as a history teacher. Over the years he was an entrepreneur owning numerous businesses throughout that time; Call Suzy, LawMed, and Third Little Pig were a few of his most prized business ventures, including some patents.  You could find Pete DJing over the years with friends in support of numerous fundraisers.  Nothing gave Pete a bigger smile than knowing he was helping others; whether it was his “gig” or simply his natural way of making conversation and telling the very best stories, he brought joy to others everywhere he went. He was a poet with his words and saw life as a wonderful journey.  He enjoyed skiing and was a member of the Flying Dutchman ski club, as well as, his time out on the links with friends. His Boyertown days were fuel for many stories about the Raccoons, the Grill Shop, Mario’s Pizza, and Iezzi’s friends and family.

Peter and Paula had many beautiful adventures together. They owned a beach home in Chincoteague, Virginia where they both could sit on the porch watching the bay and the ponies over a cup of coffee.  They traveled across the country and back again on a long and beautiful sightseeing excursion. They went on jewel-hunting adventures; finding beautiful gemstones and turning them into precious jewelry and memories. In all of their adventures, their favorite was their family and spending time spoiling their grandchildren, grandnieces, and grandnephews.  This was evident every single Christmas, not only did he take the time to pen the most loving history of the year as a gift inside of each and every Christmas card sent, but the majority of those letters spoke of all of the children’s and grand’s adventures.

On Saturday, November 18th, 2023, all are welcome to celebrate Peter’s life.  A memorial will be held at the Boyertown Orioles Social Club, 100 N. Washington St. Boyertown, Pennsylvania, 19512.  The family intends to begin services at 3 p.m.  All guests are welcome to stay for an “Oldies Dance” as a tribute to Pete’s time as a DJ. Guests are encouraged to email Kristen (Paula’s daughter) to confirm attendance at the memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations be made to one of three charities including, Tunnels to Towers, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the Shriners Hospital for Children.
