Paula D Wright was born Paul David Wright on February 9, 1950, to Jess Wright, Jr. and Lillian Fay Ferguson Wright in Lubbock, Texas. She legally changed her gender in 2007 and since then has identified as female.
She attended Coronado High School where she played in the band. After graduating from high school in 1969, she enlisted in the Army and completed boot camp in El Paso, Texas. After secondary training, she was immediately sent to Vietnam where she served two terms. At the end of the Vietnam War, she was stationed in Germany where she was honorably discharged.
Paula was married twenty years to Barbara Jean Edwards Wright. They had three wonderful, independent sons; Jess Albert Wright (partner Melissa Dover), David Edward Wright (wife Melissa Keller Wright), and Brian Anthony Wright (partner Jimmy McCubbin).
Paula is survived by her two sisters: Pamela Wright Haynes (husband Bill Haynes) of Del Rio, Texas, and Elaine Wright of Arlington, Texas; one niece, D’awn Elaine Howland of Euless, Texas; his five grandchildren: Kyla Shae Cox Wright, Debbie Wright (husband Kameron Jorgenson), Daniel Wright, Brandon Wright, and Breyann Wright, and one great-grandson, Aurori J Cornelius.
Paula died peacefully in her sleep on March 14th surrounded by her devoted and loving friends, Sheryl Cruz and her husband Guadalupe Cruz Mejia.
