Nancy Chekonik

Nancy Justine Chekonik passed away Friday, November 10, 2023, at her home in Myrtle Beach.

Nancy was born at Henry Hospital in Geneseo, Ill. to the late Eldon and Lucille Ellis.  She was the oldest of 12 children. 

Nancy graduated from Saint Malachy High School in 1960 and went to business school to become a Flight Attendant.  She was then recruited by the Navy becoming a Paralegal for Navy Jag. 

On April 11, 1963, she married David Joe Chekonik in Washington DC.  They later adopted two children raising them in Maryland and Virginia.  After 35 years, Nancy decided to retire to Myrtle Beach, SC.  She enjoyed the beach, traveling, reading, sudoku, Rummikub, and of course, socializing and playing games on her phone and tablet.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Stephen, Michael, and Richard Ellis, and 2 sisters, Patty Shaw and Cathy Clark. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Malinda Gallahan and Ronald Chekonik, and her grandchildren, Yasmine West, Mason Chekonik, Kade Gallahan, Ashley Mattke, and Taylor Chekonik, and her great-grandchildren, Kaysen McConnell, Bransen Chavis, Julianna & Jonathan Rodriguez, and Journey Mattke, her 2 brothers, Gary and Danny Ellis, and her sisters, Bonita Jones, Debbie Montreal, Peggy West, and Linda Foley. 

Nancy was a kind-hearted soul who lived life to the fullest.  Her loving heart will forever live on in our memories.
