Mario Maurizio Scalzo

SCALZO, Mario Maurizio, age 84, of Horry County, SC, passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in serene repose. Mario was born in Cerva, Italy. Mario came to America at the age of 17, joining his brothers Antonia and Vittorio in Pennsylvania. He established his own businesses over the years including hair salons and eating establishments as well as Scalzo's Southern Italian Restaurant located in North Carolina. More important than the businesses he built were the friendships he forged and the people he felt privileged to mentor. He left his legacy in the love he shared and in the abiding way he cared. He never forgot his roots, and he always honored his heritage.

Mario was very steadfast in his faith and his never wavering love of God. He was very happy and was very often singing his favorite songs from Italy with much enthusiasm. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and all that knew him.

Mario is preceded in death by his parents: Giacomo and Maria (Talarico) Scalzo; sister, Norina; brothers, Ettore, Antonio, Vittorio, and grandson Niko. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Leslie; s. sisters in Italy; Lydia, Ida, and Silvana; sons Andre' (Jan) Scalzo, Marcello Scalzo and s. daughter Vanessa; grandchildren, Taylor, Hannah, and Mia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in America and Italy.

In honoring Mario's resolute wishes there will be no service.
