Lynn McCrum Funkhauser
January 30, 1936, to August 2, 2025
Lynn Eva McCrum Funkhauser, age 89, passed away on August 2, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Lynn was born January 30, 1936, to Virginia Smyth Lamb and William Harold McCrum and grew up in Nutley and Livingston, New Jersey. She pursued her degree in music education, proudly graduating from the same college as her father, SUNY at Potsdam - Crane School of Music.
A talented musician with an amazing Mezzo-soprano voice, she enjoyed many years of singing with the church choir. Lynn had the honor of playing piano on the main stage at Carnegie Hall when she was 5 years old and later played the pipe organ at various churches, including St John the Divine in New York City. She is remembered by the family for singing Carmina Burana Chorale at the Kennedy Center and passing her love of music to her children and grandchildren. A small but mighty lady, she earned her Junior Sharpshooter; not to be outdone by her sons, she could still hit a bull’s eye well into her 80s.
Lynn’s proudest accomplishment was raising four successful children through multiple military moves. She was a selfless woman who enjoyed caring for others and celebrating life with her companion, Stephen, and her extended family. The family will remember her for her beautiful smile, laugh, humor, loyalty, and a bit of feistiness.
Lynn is predeceased by Stephen S. Ho, her companion of 37 years, sister Ardis Pruess, and brother John McCrum. She is survived by her brother Lewis McCrum, stepsister Leslie Pruess, and stepbrother Briant Marsh, four children: Howard (Patty), Christopher (Tammy), Kathryn (Nelson), and Jennifer (Gary,) and Stephen’s children Philip (Agnes), Stephanie (David), and Melissa (Scott). She will continue to live on through generations of 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services for Lynn will be held Saturday, October 11th, at 11 am at St. Paul’s Rock Creek Episcopal Parish in Washington, D.C. Inurnment to follow at Rock Creek Cemetery to be with her beloved companion, Steve.
