Lawrence (Larry) Staruk, 83, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at his home in Surfside Beach, S.C. Larry was born in Palmerton, PA on March 3, 1941. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Podolsky) Staruk.
Larry graduated from Lansford High School in 1959 and then attended Westmoreland Community College in Bethlehem, PA, and Thaddeus Stephens Trade School in Lancaster, PA.
Larry spent many years in manufacturing as a bill of materials coordinator in the engineering department of the following companies: Stanley Vidmar in Allentown, PA; Bell and Howell Phillipsburg Co., in Allentown, PA and Manual Woodworkers and Weavers in Hendersonville, N.C. After he retired from Manual Woodworkers, he managed the bookstore at Lutheridge Camp and Conference Center in Arden, N.C.
Larry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Loretta; daughters Cynthia Ault and Denise Rex of Northampton, PA; step-daughter Hope Bray (Paul) of Surfside Beach, SC; granddaughters Allison Ault of Northampton, PA, and Ashley Olsen of Layton, Utah; step-granddaughter Kelsey Bray of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; grandsons Timothy and Nicholas Rex of Northampton; and his beloved feline friend, Tinkerbell.
Larry loved the Lord and was very active in church. He taught Sunday School for several years and served on many committees. He was church treasurer at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Hecktown, PA, and Moore’s Grove United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, N.C. He was also a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church.
Larry was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed attending stamp shows and working on his collection at home.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Joan of Hazleton, PA, Mary of Fort Washington, PA, and twin sister Lorraine of Lansford, PA.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on December 21, 2024, at Grand Strand Church of Christ, Surfside Beach, S.C. at 11 a.m.
Mr. Staruk is entrusted to Kelvin Lewis, the Funeral Director, and the Lewis Crematory and Funeral Home Staff of Myrtle Beach, SC.
