Larry M. Townsend, 72, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away November 8, 2021 at home, and has gone to be with the Lord. Larry was born June 28, 1949 in Powell County, Kentucky to the late Volney Townsend and Joyce Burkhart Walser.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a huge and lifelong fan of the Kentucky Wildcats! He enjoyed watching Kentucky games, golfing, and watching his grandson’s play baseball. He will never miss another game! Larry worked in faclities and maintenance with IBM most of his working life, and then Caravelle Resort Properties for 13 years where he was beloved by his co-workers. Larry’s infectious humor will be missed by all.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra; a daughter, Chrissy Beaty (JD) of Frenchburg, KY; two step daughters: Billie Todd (Chris) and Chrissy Mays (Steve), both of Myrtle Beach; a son, Shannon Townsend of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Sean Murphy (Cathy); 3 sisters, Janie Clark (Terry), Kim McDaniel (Mike) and Tara Finley, of the Anderson County area in Indiana; and a brother-in-law Tommy Brown (Sandra), and long time family friend/sister-in-law, Linda Barnes. Larry had 8 grandchildren: Christopher, Brantley and Corbin Todd; Garrett, Tucker, and Beckett Mays; Ashley and Anthony Page. He had 2 great grandchildren. He also had several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents who raised him, grandmother Leora Burkhardt, whom he called “mom”, and his grandfather, Fred; and a sister-in-law, Teri Brown Ramsey.

The family will have a gathering to celebrate Larry’s life at the home of his mother and father-in- law, Ann and Donald Hunter, at 1307 9th Avenue, Conway, SC on Friday, November 12, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
