Jeanette Alice (Brideau) Trodden
Jeanette Alice Trodden passed peacefully in her sleep on August 12th, 2024, at 92. Born on May 3rd, 1932, in Saumarez, Canada, to her loving parents, Howard and Alice, she relocated to America, where she grew up with her eleven siblings in North Tarrytown.
After graduating high school, Jeanette met the love of her life, William (Ronnie) Ronald Trodden. They were married on October 23rd, 1953, and raised five children together. Jeanette and Ronnie retired to Lake Wallenpaupack PA and shared many years of joy, often playing gin rummy at the table and watching the wildlife—bears and deer—in their backyard until Ronnie’s passing in 2012. At the age of 87, Jeanette said goodbye to the snowy winters of Pennsylvania and embraced the warmth of Myrtle Beach, SC. She continued to touch lives with her laughter and kindness, welcoming family and friends to her new home, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jeanette’s life was deeply rooted in her family, who always held a special place in her heart. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, raising children who embraced the importance of faith and family and passed these values on to their families as they had children of their own. Throughout her life, Jeanette also remained closely connected to her siblings. One of her greatest joys was attending the Brideau family reunions, where they all gathered by the Hudson River to view the Tappan Zee Bridge and reconnect, celebrate, and admire the beauty of their shared family heritage.
Jeanette was a hard worker, spending over twenty years at the Town of Mount Pleasant’s clerk’s office in Hawthorne, NY, where she retired from her civil service position in 1993.
Jeanette was an avid reader, with a special passion for newspapers. No matter where she lived, she made sure to receive the local paper daily, even having the Journal News of Westchester mailed to her when she moved to Myrtle Beach. Jeanette was proud of her Canadian heritage and honored to become an American citizen on December 17th, 1969. Jeanette registered as an independent voter and was actively involved in working the polls in the states where she lived.
Jeanette will be remembered not only for her deep faith and quiet strength but also for her warm heart, positive nature, and the gentle way she moved through the world. She was deeply loved by her family and will be truly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her and being loved by her.
Jeanette is survived by her five children, William (and his wife Dawn), Barbara-Jean, John (Jack) (and his wife MaryAnn), Matthew (and his wife Laurie), and Marion; her sister-in-law Carol (and her husband Paul); three brothers: Alvin, Henri, and Norman (and his wife Gloria); 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a family of friends in Myrtle Beach.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Myrtle Beach Grove Senior Living and Embrace Hospice Center of Myrtle Beach. During the five years Jeanette spent in Myrtle Beach, she lived without worry, surrounded by the love and care of those who truly understood her kind and joyful spirit.
A memorial service and burial will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, at 11 a.m. at 334 St. Mary Church Rd, Lake Ariel, PA 18436.
To honor Jeanette's life, please complete an act of kindness in her memory.
