Janet Catherine Auer passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 83 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born on August 25, 1942, in New York City, Janet lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family and community.
Janet was the cherished wife of William “Billy” Auer, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving home and raised three children: Mary Ellen Williams (spouse: Dennis Williams) of Rock Hill, SC; Kristen Auer of Virginia Beach, VA; and Billy Auer (spouse: Joseph Rapanotti) of Atlanta, GA. Her legacy continues through her three beloved grandchildren: Kaitlyn Carter (spouse: Zach Carter), Torie Lollis, and Kierstin Lollis—all of Rock Hill, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Mervil Broadbent, as well as her brothers Thomas Mervil Broadbent and John Stewart Broadbent.
Janet’s warmth and generosity touched all who knew her. She was a kind-hearted woman whose smile could light up any room. Her deep compassion made her a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Janet found strength and solace in her faith. She attended or watched Mass daily and was a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City, South Carolina.
Janet embraced life with joy and curiosity. Some of her fondest memories were made while traveling to see new sights. From her cross country road trip with best friends to one of her many trips to St. Martin, Janet loved adventures of any kind. Whether reading a good book or enjoying a spirited board game, she brought enthusiasm and storytelling to every moment. Shopping trips were often more about the company than the purchases themselves—another way she connected with those around her.
Her home was always open to friends and family from near and far. With many loved ones in Myrtle Beach and across the country, Janet maintained strong bonds that spanned generations and geography. Family was always eager to come home for holidays with her carefully planned delicious meals.
Janet’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her enduring love bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City, South Carolina, at a later date. Details regarding the service and a celebration of her life will be shared with family and friends privately.
Mrs. Auer is entrusted to Kelvin F. Lewis, the funeral director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home staff of Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 294-0011
