James Gee Obituary

James Gee,80, of North Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025. He was born to Sterling and Onie Brooks Gee on October 20,1944 in Burlington, NC.

Survived by his wife Josephine (Jodie) whom he met in high school; his son, Michael and three daughters: Melanie Hintz; Kathy (Robert) Smith of Knoxville, TN and Jennifer Gee.  His four grandsons, Jackson (Lexi) Smith, Wyatt (Olivia) Smith, Easton Smith, Tyson Smith and one great granddaughter Mabelle Smith with another great grandchild on the way.  His sister, Patsy (Doyle) survives along with nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister and brother in law, James and Phyllis Tate and an infant brother, Sterling whom we hope he had a joyous reunion with. 

In 1967, Jim graduated from NC State University with a BS in nuclear engineering.  Over his career he worked in Dahlgren VA,  Newport News shipyard where he designed systems for nuclear submarines, Idaho National Lab in Idaho Falls where he worked   with breeder reactors, CP&L in Raleigh, NC and Hartsville, SC where he worked on nuclear power plants.  In 1996 he started contract engineering traveling to nuclear power plants in NY, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and in the northeast before returning to SC to work at the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant in Southport, NC until his retirement.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  There will be no services.  He will be buried in Alamance Memorial Gardens in Burlington, NC.

Jim had a love of vintage cars, pimento cheese, NC barbeque, chocolate, and animals especially cats.  He is also survived by his grandcats Leonard and Zoey who will miss his treats. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local humane society.
