Howard Samuel “Sam” Medford, Jr, 79, of Little River, SC, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Born on February 22, 1947, in Haywood County, NC, he was the son of Howard and Effie Caldwell Medford.
Sam was a 1965 graduate of Bethel High School in Canton, NC. His service in the US Army included a tour of Vietnam, where he was injured. Sam went on to work in the furniture industry in Conover, NC for 35 years. He traveled the world with his wife Kay of 55 wonderful years. Sam was known for his dry wit and love of old cars and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Tabor Medford; sister, Roena McClure; nephews, Dr Kenneth McClure and Allen (AJ) Rabon; and nieces, Karen F. Hazell and Laura M. Keister. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Medford.
His wife would like to give special thanks to Patriot Hospice.
No memorial service will be held. Sam’s ashes will be brought back to the mountains of Western North Carolina at a later date. Kay would like to thank all the friends and family who have been there for them during this time.
