Gurdon C. Pitcher, 81, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and formerly of Candor, NY passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by his family. Gurdon was born on June 26, 1942, the son of Albert Sr. and Ruby (Judge) Pitcher. He retired from IBM in Owego, NY on June 30, 1997. His passions were hunting, fishing, pulling practical jokes on his children, sticky notes, and the Ten Commandments. Dad was famous for checking your car before you left to be sure it was safe whenever you visited. Gurdon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family.
He was predeceased by his daughter Darlene Pitcher his brothers Albert “Skip” Pitcher, Frank Haus, and Paul Haus, and his sister Arlene Kurtz.
He is survived by his wife Carrol Pitcher of Myrtle Beach, SC. Four children Roger Pitcher of Candor, NY; Sherry (Chris) Parker of Cato, NY; Tammy (Russell Hartke) Thomas of Horseheads, NY; Lewis Pipher of Myrtle Beach, SC. Six grandchildren Justin (Rebecca) Siegard, Josh Siegard, Andrea Alpert (Jerry Wright), Arika (Scott) McCollough, Mick Thomas, and Makayla Pitcher. Seven great grandchildren Kash, Kolby, Acee, Asiah, Riplee, Mason, and Elsie. He is also survived by several other brothers and sisters; Gurdon was one of 15 children and many nieces and nephews that he loved. Nephew Joey Kurtz of Candor, NY, and Gurdon shared a special bond.
The family plans to have a celebration of life later in Candor, New York.
