Grace Marie McCarty

Grace Marie Scanlan McCarty, 89, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at a nursing facility in North Charleston. Born on July 29, 1936, in New York, NY, she was the beloved daughter of William Scanlan and Grace Lombardo Scanlan.

Grace was of the Catholic faith and cherished the simple joys in life, such as reading books and keeping diaries. She had a passion for food, so much so that she kept a journal documenting her meals. Grace found great joy in exploring new places and particularly enjoyed going on cruises. She deeply loved her family and eagerly anticipated phone conversations with her children. Grace was well-known for her signature bright red lipstick, which she wore with pride. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee McCarty, and two sisters, Barbara F. Dow and Marlene Green.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Gribben (Patrick) of Bonneau; four sons, Walter W. McCarty (Lisa) of Rochester, NY, David D. McCarty of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, Erik E. McCarty (Lisa) of Nesconset, NY, and Matthew M. McCarty (Ela) of Levittown, NY; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Jessica, Kaitlin, Jack, Ania, Karolina, and Matthew; and three great grandchildren, Lincoln, Layla, and Noah.

A memorial service will  be held on Wednesday April, 29, 2026, at Lewis Crematory  Chapel from 3-5 pm
