Gordon R. Wilkins Sr.

Gordon Robert Wilkins was born on February 17, 1938 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey and made his passing on September 21, 2024 in Surfside Beach. He was the beloved son of Alex Martin Wilkins and Edith Anna Williams. He was brother to Martin Wilkins (Barbara), Kathleen Wilkins Bortner and Wendy Wilkins Tucker. He was father to Renee Wilkins, Gordon Wilkins Jr., (Mary), Edith Santiago Ramos (Eddie), John Wilkins, Tara Wilkins McAllister (Matthew) and Dustin Wilkins. Gordon was married to Wanda Brozozog-Joyce and Denise Neiding, Gordon was the proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Gordon spent his working life in sales and delivery for Wonder Bread and Frito-Lay. In his retirement he ushered for the Toledo Mud Hens. His fondest passion, football, started when he played for his high school team in Burlington County, NJ and continued throughout his life as a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Detroit Lions. Gordon also loved baseball and rooted for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers. Gordon was a lover of books and reading and he made sure that he passed that on to his children. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Gordon probably started wearing Old Spice when he was a young lad and it continued to be his favorite cologne into his seasoned years.

In his later years, Gordon relished spending time with family and friends and out-winning everyone at bingo. He loved all animals and was especially fond of feeding the birds and squirrels and could watch their antics for hours.

What we’ll always remember so fondly, is that Gordon was that guy who when he walked into a room with his bright smile and deep laughter, everyone immediately wanted to be his friend and he had a lot of them. His unending sense of humor made him the life of every gathering and there is no doubt that it will be the same in heaven.  

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Lewis Crematory Chapel.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Lewis Crematory Chapel.
