Gloria J. Lewis passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the age of 74.

Gloria was born to the late Rudolph Edison Fowler and Justine Park Elliott Fowler on April 28, 1951, in New London, CT.  She was one of 12 children.  She grew up in Mystic, Connecticut, graduating from Fitch Senior High School in 1970.  It was there she met the love of her life and soulmate, James W. Lewis.  They wed on July 11, 1971, in Groton, CT.

Gloria worked for many years for Bradlees Department Store in Groton, CT, until their closure in 1998.  She took her passion and love for being a mom and transitioned to working in childcare until her retirement.

Gloria was deeply devoted to her family and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  She often hosted many family holiday events where all would come to enjoy her cooking.  She and her husband would often open their home to family and friends who fell on hard times or just needed help.    Her love for children extended to her taking in and raising her great-nephew, Christopher M. Fowler, and raising him as her own son from 6 years age of.

After retirement, Gloria and James moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, to help care for their grandchildren, Jenkins and Quincey then eventually settled in Conway, SC.

Gloria loved to travel, spend time with her grandkids, and loved her fur babies, Max and Coco.  She lived an extraordinary life filled with love, laughter, and light.  She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Gloria is predeceased by her “son” Christopher M. Fowler, siblings Arlene Sears, Tina Arrington, Hope Burns, Bernice Snow, and Marion Roler, and fur baby Bella.  She is survived by her loving husband, James W. Lewis of Conway, SC; daughter, Tonya Lewis of Portsmouth, VA; grandsons, Jenkins D. Jones of Norfolk, VA, and Quincey C. Jones of Portsmouth, VA; and Grayson C. Fowler of Conway, SC.  Siblings:  Eleanor Fortin of Preston, CT, June Cassidy of Jewett City, CT; Lulu Fowler of Hopkinton, RI, Valerie Fowler of Groton, CT, Henry Fowler of Ford City, PA; and Rudolph Fowler Jr of Sullivan, IN, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation or Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Hospice.
