Ezra Wayne Burroughs, age 49, passed away on September 05, 2024, in Murrells Inlet, S.C., from a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born to Joyce Gale Burroughs of Albemarle, N.C., and Pete Burroughs.
Ezra experienced challenging times as a child but was proud of his trade as an electrician. Ezra traveled to various states, working and wiring sizeable new construction projects. After a long-term job in Wyoming that coincided with a long-distance relationship with Kathryn Nicole Burroughs (Katie), Ezra boldly decided to leave Wyoming and establish himself with a new company as an electrician in South Carolina. He loved his new employer and hoped and aspired to obtain his Journeyman license eventually.
Katie soon became the love of Ezra's life, and on October 29, 2016, the couple married in Murrells Inlet, S.C., Katie's hometown. Living on the coast of South Carolina and loving everything outdoors made it easy to have a beautiful outdoor wedding in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, followed by a Pawleys Island, South Carolina, outdoor reception. Ezra and Katie had one child, Bryson Caleb Burroughs, who is now four years old, born in the early months of the pandemic. Bryson was the apple of Ezra's eye, and nothing could be more gratifying than to love, play with, and raise a brilliant, adorable son.
Ezra was a "Mr. Fix it," having a tool for every problem and always willing to help anyone who needed a repair. Ezra loved music and dance. He didn't mind turning up the music and dancing like no one was watching. Ezra loved the local restaurants where he could dance. Depending on which band was playing, his friends knew where to find Ezra. Ezra was a devout Christian and family man. His faith was a driving force in his life, and he touched many people's lives in various ways. A few examples of Ezra's impact on those around him are: Shortly after his recent hospital admission, a radiation tech told him, as he headed out of his dark room in the late hours of the night, "You are here to touch and help someone else, I'm praying for you." We were never sure what that meant. Another: After returning from radiation, the transport driver sat at Ezra's bedside and asked if he could pray with him. Of course, he said yes, and the man recited an extraordinary and uplifting prayer for Ezra. According to the person who witnessed the special moment, knowing which man benefited more from the prayer was challenging.
Another: A hospital housekeeper tidied things up in Ezra's room and said, "I know you are a Christian man." Ezra acknowledged her comment. She asked if he would like to hear some gospel songs, and Ezra wanted to
listen. She pulled her cell phone from her pocket, opened an app to play gospel songs, laid it on his hospital bed, and didn't return until the end of her shift to ask if he enjoyed the music.
Ezra mentored those struggling with addiction. He knew the importance of God in his family and wanted to make sure others knew they, too, could feel the impact of God in their life. Ezra touched many people's lives before he went to his heavenly home. We found it comforting that so many approached Ezra to lift him in prayer and later told us how inspired they were by him.
Ezra was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Gale Burroughs, of Albemarle, N.C., and his father, Pete Burroughs.
Ezra leaves his loving wife of seven years, Kathryn Nicole Vaught Burroughs (Katie), and their son, Bryson Caleb Burroughs, both of Murrells Inlet, S.C., two Sisters, Diane Padgett, of New London, N.C., Donna Smith, of
