Imogene Coleman Elmore - lovingly known as "Mama Jean" - passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 91, with her family by her side in Conway, South Carolina.
Born to John and Della Coleman, Mama Jean lived a life grounded in love, faith, perseverance, and strength. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard Elmore and the proud mother of two daughters, Vonda E. Davis and Carrie E. Floyd (Doug), who were her pride and joy.
Mama Jean's legacy lives on in her grandchildren, who knew her not just as a grandmother, but as a trusted counselor: Abby Linden (Matt), Lyle Yarborough (Jodi), Loren Causey (Josh), Richard Floyd (Sarah), Coleman Floyd, Sarah Ellen Floyd (Andrew), and Caroline Floyd. She was also the adoring great-grandmother of Heyden, Kennedy, Adian, Liam, Addy Beth, and Maverick.
She was a beloved sister to the late Ilee Stokes (Luke), the late Jimmy Coleman (Modi), Joyce Watts (Franklin), and Mitchell Coleman (Barbara). She was cherished by countless nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was known in her community not just for her wit and humor, but for her deep caring. Whether offering a warm meal, a listening ear, or an uplifting word, she gave of herself without hesitation.
After retiring, Mama Jean found joy in simple pleasures - watching the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Gamecocks, reading a good book, and dancing whenever the mood struck. She had a sharp memory and a legendary wit and sass that never faded. Many in town came to know her through the IGA grocery store, where she became a beloved "grandmother to all," often cooking for others to brighten their day.
She loved fully, laughed freely, and lived with quiet conviction. She didn't measure life in years, but in moments of connection - in family meals, gentle hugs, warm biscuits, and the echo of laughter in the house on Carmon Shortcut Road outside her country town of Olanta.
Mama Jean lit up every room she entered, and her light will continue to shine through those who loved her. A memorial service will be held at Olanta Baptist Church, Olanta, SC, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
Mrs. Elmore is entrusted to Kelvin F. Lewis, the funeral director, and the Lewis Crematory & Funeral Home staff of Myrtle Beach, SC.
