Diane Edward Hill age 85 passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River, South Carolina.
Diane was born to Arlise and Mary Ellen Wilkinson on November 16, 1937, in Glens Fork, Kentucky. She was a loving mother to Jacqueline (Tim) Jordan and Paisley (Jim) Higgins. She was a dear sister to the late Duane Haley. An aunt to Todd Haley. A proud grandmother to Ryan Brown, Michael Jordan, Jonathan Jordan, Tara Jordan, Patrick Higgins, Jake Higgins, Adrienne Higgins, and the late Brandt Jordan. She was blessed with five wonderful great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Adair County High School in 1956 as Valedictorian. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University and her Master of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University. She also studied at Harvard University. Diane had a love of learning which made her a wonderful teacher. She taught Physical Science and Chemistry at Fern Creek High School in Louisville, Kentucky before taking a job at Ockerman Middle School in Florence, Kentucky in 1975. She continued to teach science at Ockerman until she retired. She loved her students and fellow teachers. She received many Honors throughout her teaching career. In 1992 she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching presented to her by President George H.W. Bush.
Diane was a fun-loving woman who loved to sew, travel, play games, and spend time with her family and friends. She has been an active member of the First Church of Christ in Burlington, Kentucky for over 47 years. She recently moved to Little River, South Carolina to be close to family. She enjoyed living an active lifestyle at the Terraces River Park independent living facility. She made new friendships, shared the gospel, and went on new adventures.
Diane lived a beautiful life. She was loved by so many people. She traveled the world going on trips to Germany, Ecuador, Jerusalem, and Egypt. As a Christian, her desired destination was to God's Kingdom and to hear the words from Jesus, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
There will be a celebration of life in the spring in Burlington, Kentucky.
