Brenda Ellen Matalik

Brenda Ellen Matalik (nee Matchett), 63, of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, surrounded by her loving husband and children, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, after a courageous four (4) year battle with Breast Cancer.

Born on March 30, 1963 in Weirton, WV, Brenda grew up in Burgettstown/Hanover Twp., Pennsylvania attended Alderson Broaddus College in Phillipi, WV and graduated from West Virginia Northern Community College with a BS in Nursing.

Brenda was a devoted nurse for four (4) years at Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, WV followed by a twenty (20) year career with CIGNA Healthcare as a Quality Assurance Nurse Administrator where she touched thousands of lives.

Her greatest joy in life was time spent with her devoted husband of forty-one (41) years, Robert “Bob” Matalik, Jr., their three (3) children Brittany (David) Cook of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Alyssa (Brett) Tokarski of Burgettstown, PA and Nick (Alyssa) Matalik of Indiana, PA and their five (5) grandchildren who she adored, Lily and Max Cook, Colton Tokarski and Olive and Wren Matalik. Surviving are her two loving (2) sisters, Stacy Morra (Michael) of Burgettstown, PA and Robin Terle (David) of Sharpsburg, GA, Father and Mother-in-Law, Robert “Bob” Sr. and Fredericka “Freddie” Matalik of Burgettstown, PA, Sister-in-Law Jill Walters of North Canton, OH and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins that she also loved and adored.   

Brenda was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in N. Myrtle Beach as well as the Nurses Honor Guard of South Carolina. A passionate member of Waites Island Sea Turtle Patrol where she and her husband and other cherished friends would gather and walk miles of the beach shoreline early in the mornings to ensure the preservation and protection of threatened and endangered sea turtles by verifying nests.

Brenda loved the beach, to walk in her neighborhood with her neighborhood friends, loved a good Game Night, especially playing Bunco and Yahtzee, an avid reader, found joy in both sending and receiving cards as well as decorating and celebrating for each and every holiday.  She took great joy in her pets, especially her cat “Blaire”, planning meals, entertaining family and friends, good conversation, and to relax on her back patio with her husband Bob after a hard day at work.

Brenda will always be remembered by her family and friends for her genuine kindness, generosity, willingness to share what she had and her loving spirit.

Brenda was preceded in death by her Parents, Robert H. Matchett and Judy A. Riter, Step Father Ronald M. Riter, Sr., Brothers in Law Peter Walters and Richard “Rick/Ricky” Matalik.

A Funeral Mass for Brenda will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church located at 1100 8th Avenue North, N. Myrtle Beach, SC on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 1:00 pm followed by her being peacefully and prayerfully laid to rest at The Columbarium and Prayer Garden.
