Arthur Stephenson Obituary

Arthur Charles Stephenson (Art) June 28, 1949 - October 11, 2021

Arthur Charles Stephenson went to his heavenly home on October 11, 2021, after an extended

illness. Born on June 28, 1949, in Charlotte, NC, Art was the son of Ernest Hiram Stephenson

and Myrtice Lenora Cooper Stephenson. Art served his country as a proud United States

Marine during the Vietnam Era. Art was a lover of classic cars and enjoyed rebuilding them.

Some of his favorite pastimes were deer hunting and fishing. He coached boy’s church league

baseball for several years at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Matthews, NC, where he was a

member. Art lived a very full life, and had many friends along the way, along with many stories to

tell - and he sure was a great storyteller.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Robert Earl Stephenson, his

nephew, Robert Earl Stephenson, Jr. (Bobby), and his lifelong best friend, Steven Willis Helms.

He is survived by his former wife and friend, Beverly Dulin Stephenson, a son, Matthew Charles

Stephenson (Misti), a daughter, Sherry Lynn Gustafson (Bruce), seven grandchildren, Trinity,

Dalton, Aaron, Emma, Kaylee, Maggie, and Lilly, and his granddogs, Drake, Luke, and Ruger.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff who so lovingly cared for Art during the last

seven years at NHC Garden City, as well as the team at Hospice Care of South Carolina and

Caris Healthcare.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the National Ataxia Foundation (ataxia.org) or the

American Cancer Society (cancer.org) in his memory.

A graveside memorial service will be set later at Sunset Memory Gardens, Charlotte,

NC.

Mr. Stephenson is entrusted to the care of Lewis Crematory and Funeral Services of Myrtle Beach, SC.
