Allen Meyer Obituary

Allen Leslie Meyer, 78, passed away peacefully in his home, in Myrtle Beach, surrounded by his loving family, on July 27, 2020. Allen was born on February 2, 1942, to Leslie and Barbara Meyer. Allen and his sister Marily grew up in the Burbank/Glendale area of California. Allen graduated from the Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, and immediately joined the United States Navy in 1960. Allen wed Jean Salerno in 1962 building his family with three children, Christopher, Cassandra, and Anna Pauline (Polly).

Allen dedicated his life to serving his country, family, community, and God. He built an illustrious military career of 31 years as a Navy Diver, Electrician, and Nuclear Engineer on both diesel and nuclear-powered submarines. Allen retired from service in August of 1991, as a decorated Naval Officer. He volunteered in the community throughout his life. He was a beloved Scout leader and coached his children’s baseball, basketball, and soccer teams. Throughout his travels across the United States, he served the homeless and provided guidance and counseling to at-risk youth and troubled adults.

Allen started his second career working as a consultant in Nuclear Waste Management managing locations across the country. Allen then transitioned to teaching engineering and technical instruction in the South Carolina area where he married his current wife, Georgette Wright in 1999, and welcomed the love of Georgette’s children Lawrence, Melissa, and Matthew.

Throughout his life, Allen dedicated himself to serving the Lord. He enriched his faith through mission work and leadership roles in the Church. He was a devout servant to God at churches, such as Utica Baptist, Lexington Baptist, and finally settled in Myrtle Beach at First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach. During his service to the Lord, he traveled to Haiti, to maintain a 75 children orphanage, ran church kitchens and banquet halls, worked with the Lexington Baptist prison ministry, and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church Surfside Beach.

Allen is survived by his wife Georgette Meyer, his children, Christopher Meyer, Cassandra Meyer Kramer, and Christopher Kramer, Anna Meyer Martin and James Martin, Lawrence Fallow, and Theresa Beard Fallow, Melissa Fallow Cloer, and Jacob Cloer, Matthew Fallow, and Megan Morris Fallow. He has 17 grandchildren, Bernard James Mahon III, and Courtney Love Mahon, Gabriel Davis, Tyler Cheatham, Rachel Meyer, Seth Davis, Nicholas Martin, Marshall Fallow, Sean Fallow, Samuel Martin, Cassandra Martin; Michael, Gideon, Rachel, and Sophia Cloer; Sarah Kate and Mary Paige Fallow. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Connor, Vale, Schafer, and Qade Mahon.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach, 11:00 am. Due to the pandemic masks are required.
